Add the ID numbers of every name you have not struck. Enter the total for the chapter you have just finished. Chapters One and Two ask a different number — the Ledger tells you which. Chapter Nine’s Ledger has no code: from there on, the only check is your verdict.

Hints — three steps, fifteen minutes apart
Every chapter has three steps: a nudge, a direction, and the answer for that chapter. A step opens fifteen minutes after the one before it, so that you have a moment to think first. Hints for a chapter open once the previous chapter's code has been confirmed above; the hints for Chapters Nine and Ten open with Chapter Eight's.
